Couch to Climb

Couch to Climb privacy policy

What data the Couch to Climb app collects, why it needs it and who else sees it.

Effective 30 October 2026

Who we are

Couch to Climb is run by Next Big Leap Ltd, registered in England and Wales. We are the data controller, which means we decide how your data is used. Contact us at info [at] strnthapp [dot] com.

The short version

You need an account to save your plan. We keep your email, first name, weight, plan and rides so the app can work. Your heart rate stays on your phone. We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.

Data we collect

  • Account: your email address, and your Apple or Google sign-in if you use one
  • Profile: your first name and your weight
  • Plan: your chosen climb, your ride days and how far through the plan you are
  • Rides: when you rode, the distance, your moving time, your average watts, the slope and the bike or sensor type
  • Groups: the group you join, if you join one

Data that stays on your phone

  • Heart rate: if you pair a heart rate strap, the readings stay on your phone and are never sent to us
  • Ride detail: the second by second readings from your last 500 rides
  • Settings: your reminders, ride sounds, ride screens and paired Bluetooth devices

Reminders are set on your phone. We do not send them from a server. Removing the app removes all of this.

How we use your data

  • To build your plan, save your rides and keep your plan safe if you change phones. This is needed to give you the service you asked for.
  • To set the effort on your rides. Your weight helps the app work out how hard a climb is for you.
  • To show the leaderboard and groups, which show your first name and how far you got.
  • To find and fix crashes. We do this because we have a fair reason to keep the app working.
  • To see how the app is used, but only if you say yes.

What other riders see

The leaderboard and groups show your first name, the furthest you got up a climb and the slope you rode. Other riders do not see your email, your weight or your full ride list.

Usage data

The app asks before it shares how you use it. If you say yes, it sends key moments to PostHog, such as when you finish setup, finish a ride or see the subscription page. These are linked to a random account id, never to your name or email. You can change your answer in the You tab at any time. If you say no later, the app clears what it holds on your phone and stops sending.

Who we share data with

We use these service providers to run the app. Each one only gets what it needs.

  • Supabase: stores your account, profile, plan and rides, and runs sign in
  • Amazon SES: sends your sign-in emails
  • RevenueCat: keeps track of your subscription, using a random account id
  • Apple and Google: handle sign in if you choose them, and take your payment. We never see your card details.
  • Sentry: receives crash reports, with personal details turned off
  • PostHog: receives usage data, only if you say yes

Where your data is held

Supabase stores your data in Ireland. Sentry and PostHog use their EU services. RevenueCat, Apple, Google and Amazon may handle data outside the UK and EEA. Where that happens we rely on an approved transfer mechanism, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, plan and rides until you delete your account. Deleting your account removes them for good. Our service providers keep their own records, such as crash reports and purchase records, under their own retention rules.

How to delete your data

In the app, open the You tab and tap Delete account. You can also ask us to delete it without the app.

Your rights

Under UK and EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data. You can also limit or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. To do any of this, write to us at info [at] strnthapp [dot] com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator.

Children

Couch to Climb is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us their data, email us and we will remove it.

Changes

If we make a big change we will update this page and the date at the top.
